About the Hartford Transfer/Recycling Center
Operating Hours: Beginning on May 2, 2023, the Town of Hartford Solid Waste Facility will be open Tuesday through Saturday. The operating hours will be 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM. Scale closes at 3:30pm. For questions regarding what is accepted, please call the Scale House at (802) 295-2673.Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event - Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM weather permitting
September 2023 will be announced as vendors are contracted in the months prior.
In order to use the facility, you must have a valid permit or day pass.
Annual permits for the 2022-2023 year are now available to purchase at the Scale House for Town of Hartford residents. GUV residents must purchase annual permits with their town clerk's office.
Day permits for Town of Hartford and GUV residents can be purchased at the Scale House.
Punch Cards for Town of Hartford residents are purchased at the Scale House. GUV residents must purchase punch cards at their Town Clerk's office.
The Town of Hartford Selectboard has set the following rates for the Solid Waste/Recycling Services.
The Town of Hartford operates a Solid Waste/Recycling Transfer Center at the site of the former town landfill at 2590 North Hartland Road that sits on about 19 acres of property. The 5 villages in the Town of Hartford (Hartford, Quechee, White River Junction, Wilder and West Hartford) are eligible to use the facility.
The facility is also used by the 10 towns who are members of the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District.

The entire facility is operated under enterprise fund accounting rules which means that the facility has to be sustained by user fees and permits. General fund tax dollars do not fund the facility.

Staffing is provided by 2 full time attendants.
