Vermont Agency of Transportation staff and its bridge consultant, Gill Engineering, will seek public input on design elements of the planned bridge project. In April, the team held a public meeting and conducted an on-line survey on paint color, railings, and barrier fencing. Over 500 people responded to the survey. Most people who took the survey had similar views about the fence design and bridge color as those who attended a public meeting in early April. There is a preference for a curved upper barrier and a green colored bridge. See survey results.
Since April, the project team has been refining and reviewing design elements to prepare bid documents for contractors who want to undertake the bridge rehabilitation project. Final plans for the project will be developed in 2019-20 and rehabilitation will begin in 2021.
At the October 3rd meeting, VTrans will review and seek public opinion on design options for the lower section of the barrier fencing as well as preferences for various shades of green paint that could be selected for the bridge steel. The team will also share with the public how it has refined plans for new sidewalks and the sidewalk safety railing.
