The Town of Hartford is pleased to announce the hiring of Geoffrey Martin as the new Energy Coordinator starting September 5, 2017. This is a new full-time position in the Department of Planning an
d Development which will have primary responsibility for an expanding town-wide energy program for the municipality and the community at large. This includes reducing energy consumption and overall costs, strengthening reliability, resiliency and sustainability of energy infrastructure, employing new technologies and best practices, contributing to a cleaner environment and enhancing the quality of life for Hartford residents and businesses. Some key responsibilities include implementing and monitoring the Town’s five-year Energy Action Plan and Comprehensive Energy Plan; being the point of contact on energy related issues for Town government and at the local, regional and state level; and staffing the Hartford Energy Commission.
Mr. Martin comes to the Town with experience with climate and energy programs involving public policy, community organizing and outreach, and project development, implementation and management at the state, regional, and national levels. He is skilled as a Home Energy Efficiency Advisor including certification as a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Analyst. While a graduate student at Emory University in Georgia, he co-founded the Emory Climate Analysis and Solutions Team comprised of students, faculty and community members working on climate-related issues. In this role, he worked with the City of Atlanta, Sierra Club, Environment Georgia, Solar Crowdsource, and Georgia Technology, which led to community projects now underway such as Atlanta’s strategy to reduce barriers to solar for low-income communities, determining the public health co-benefits of Atlanta’s Climate Action Plan, and updating the city’s Green House Gases inventory.
