Overview

Commission Responsibilities

The commission shall consult with and advise the Director of Parks and Recreation in matters affecting recreation programs; park/facility related projects, policies and finances. The commission assists in the development of long-range planning for recreation and park needs of the community. New members must be committed to attending 1 meeting a month. Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5 pm.

The mission of the department is to serve the needs of the community through quality parks and facilities and by offering lifelong learning through recreational and cultural programs.

The residents of Hartford and the surrounding communities recognize the vital importance of natural places and recreation. Through diverse programming that aims to reach all, regardless of age, gender, race, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background, the Hartford Parks and Recreation Department cooperates with community groups to bring a variety of recreational opportunities to local residents. The department is committed to maintaining the highest quality parks and facilities while dedicating itself to improving its program offerings and practices to meet current and future needs.
