Homes for Hartford
Join the conversation about the current and future housing needs in Hartford. Come to the newly launched Homes for Hartford multimedia station at the Junction Arts and Media Center (JAM, formerly CATV) at 5 South Main Street in Downtown White River Junction. The Multimedia Station will be at JAM for the next few weeks and will then rotate to different locations in Hartford over the summer.
Please take a few minutes to answer a short survey on housing.
As we all know, Hartford, the region, and much of the U.S. are facing a serious housing crisis. To work on developing solutions, the Town of Hartford applied for and received a Vermont Municipal Planning Grant to update the Housing Chapter of the Town Plan. In 2022, the grant was awarded. The Town prepared a Request for Proposals and hired the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission to work with Town staff and the Planning Commission. Also, an ad hoc Steering Committee (a subcommittee of the Planning Commission) began meeting in the fall. The Steering Committee is comprised of the Planning Commission and representatives from several Town Commissions and organizations to work with staff and the consultant to focus on goals, strategies, and solutions.
A key part of the project is an extensive public process. This includes the multimedia booth, a survey, and four community forums.
Community Forums
The first community forum was held on February 28, 2022, and focused on the current status of housing. Access the slides presented and the video of the consolidated group discussion and three break-out discussion groups.
Videos of the February 28 Community Discussion & Breakout Sessions
The second community meeting was held on April 13, 2023, and focused on housing goals and strategies.
Homes for Hartford Survey
Share your thoughts:
- Hartford, the region and much of the U.S. are facing a serious housing crisis.
- When we say, "we need to build more housing", what does that mean?
- How can we make it more possible for people who work in Hartford to also live in Hartford?
- What are the things we need to consider when building new homes to meet the needs of our community and create neighborhoods, a sense of being a part of something more?
To answer these questions and many more, the Town of Hartford received a Vermont Municipal Planning Grant to update the Housing Chapter of the Town Plan which will guide what the Town does today and in the future. A big part of this process is hearing from the Hartford community. So please take a few minutes and tell us your stories by answering the questions below.
These questions will change over the next few months so please revisit this page.
You also can find out more about Homes for Hartford's past and upcoming community discussions and meetings on this page of the Town's Website.
